Drove up to San Francisco on Friday for the
Montessori Centenary celebration. It's a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first
Montessori school. For some there are classes to attend but for others,
like me, there are only speeches and/or short lectures, plus lots of good food and shopping. The first
night, Friday, was the keynote address by Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph.D. He
spoke about Relational Poverty. It was so inspiring and I really want
to blog some of the stuff he said before I forget it, but it will have
to wait, because the most amazing thing happened. They had an
unannounced guest speaker...Sergey Brin, Google Co-Founder. He spoke
about his childhood and about being a Montessori student. He talked
about how complex the world is and about how difficult it is to even buy a
computer these days. I wish I could get a transcript of his speech.
Seeing him truly made my night. Jules, one of my co-workers, wanted to
get a picture with him. I really wanted to also but I was just too much
of a chicken to ask. He had so many people around him. I felt I'd be
intruding on his space, so I just took pictures from afar.
